Caught in the Crossfire!
Women on the Frontlines in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala

We are proud to invite you to an event hosted by Nobel Women’s Initiative and JASS (Just Associates) taking place on June 4th, 2012 from 6-8pm at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, DC. The panelists include Nobel Peace Laureate Jody Williams, human rights defenders Blanca Martinez from Mexico and Gilda Rivera from Honduras, and Laura Carlsen, Director of the Americas Program in Mexico City.

Violence against women—including murder, rape and forced disappearances—has reached crisis dimensions in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. Join our panelists to hear more about the hidden story of how rising violence in Mexico and Central America is impacting the lives of women, and women activists. The panelists will explore how US foreign policy--particularly the “War on Drugs”--is fueling the violence against women.

Viviana Hurtado, the award-winning founder of the cutting-edge politics blog The Wise Latina Club, former ABC News sub-anchor, and Al Jazeera English journalist, will moderate the discussion.
